Distinguish between source documents and books of original entry
This section introduces students to the foundation of modern accounting – the double-entry bookkeeping system. You will learn how every transaction has two sides, how to post entries accurately, and how to prepare and balance accounts. By the end of this section, you will be able to prepare a trial balance and identify common posting errors with confidence.
Through 14 structured lessons, practical exercises, and a final quiz, learners will develop the ability to record transactions systematically. This section bridges the gap between theory and practice, ensuring you gain not only knowledge but also hands-on accounting skills.
This section expands on books of prime entry with a focus on more complex records such as the three-column cash book, journal proper, bills of exchange, and control accounts. Students will practice full transaction cycles, build a strong foundation for error-checking, and strengthen their ability to summarize large volumes of data.
This section focuses on preparing a trial balance, identifying common bookkeeping errors, and applying systematic methods to locate and correct them. Students will consolidate their knowledge of ledgers, postings, and adjustments. Both theory and practical exercises are included, with real-world examples and exam-style case studies to build confidence and accuracy.
Section 6 covers the preparation and understanding of financial statements. Students will learn how to prepare trading accounts, profit & loss accounts, and balance sheets from trial balances, apply adjustments such as accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and provisions, and classify assets and liabilities. Both theory and practical exercises are included, with worked examples to consolidate learning.
Section 7 prepares students for their final exams. It includes past paper practice, time management strategies, question selection, and presentation tips. Students will attempt timed mini mocks and a final quiz to consolidate their learning. Model answers and marking schemes are provided for self-assessment.
